The Ooblets (game) Halloween Event occurs in Badgetown every year from October 1st to mid-November real-world time. The 2023 Halloween event ran from October 1 until November 15.
As of the 2022 Halloween Event, the game's colors have been tweaked during the Halloween event to be more Fall-oriented (the colors will go back to normal after the event ends).
2023 Halloween Event Overview[]
The 2023 Halloween Event was announced in an email newsletter sent on September 18, 2023. It was first accessible during PC patch v1.3.11_e_da on September 26, 2023. The 2023 Halloween Event will run from October 1 until November 15, and it will include:

Badgetown's Spooky Makeover[]
Here are some highlights to look for around Badgetown during the event:
- The townsfolk are all dressed in costumes.
- The buildings and other infrastructure have tons of spooky decor.
- Be sure to stick around after sundown to see what's going on with some of the shop windows...
- Some individual ooblets now wander around town in their costumes... are they trick-or-treating?
- Wild ooblets all wear accessories, and they even bring them into dance battles.
- This means that you can use Gopslop's "Grubby Hands" card to get additional copies of the accessories they wear. This includes some that are otherwise very difficult to obtain multiples of (such as the Official Police Hat).
- The wild Ooblets will change their accessories each time you reload the area (such as entering and exiting a building). You can use this to help find the specific accessories you want.
Accessories Worn by Wild Ooblets[]
Arah's Letter[]
On the first day the Player wakes up after the Halloween Event starts, they will receive a letter in the mail from Arah that summarizes what's going on. Once you close that message, you won't be able to read it again. Luckily, we have saved a copy of it on this page if you want to see it again. |
A Brand New Spooky Ooblet![]
A new Ooblet (or nooblet) was released as part of the v1.3 Halloween Event 2023 update. This is the second new Ooblet to be introduced into the game since the official 1.0 launch, after Taterflop was introduced for the 2023 Spring Event.
The new Ooblet is called Xanaboo, and it is found in Badgetown only during this event and only at night. 1 Skellybit Skewer is required to start a dance battle with Xanaboo.
According to the in-game event summary, Xanaboo is a "Secret event-limited spooky ooblet," so be sure to get your Xanaboos before the event is over on November 15th!
Special Halloween Items[]
Display Items[]
In the middle of Badgetown, the Player can find a display with special Halloween items that can be purchased for Candy. The Halloween Candy Pail is free, and you must use it to start getting more Candy. Equipping the pumpkin pail (in the clothing menu) is required to trigger the trick-or-treating interaction with the befriendable characters and get candy from them. It can be found under the Accessories section of the Player's Clothing inventory.
The following items are available for sale at the Halloween display.
Item | Item Type | Cost | |
---|---|---|---|
Halloween Candy Pail | Clothing – Accessory | 0 Candy | |
Dowsing Twisty Licorice Sticks | Resource | 3 Candy | |
Skellybit Skewer Recipe | Recipe | 3 Candy |
Found Items[]
These items can be found around town when you have the appropriate items equipped.
Item | Item Type | How to Obtain | |
---|---|---|---|
Candy | Resource | Equip the Halloween Candy Pail in the clothing menu, then talk to any of the Pals characters in Badgetown. See the "Special Halloween Dialogue" section further down this page for more details. | |
Skellybit | Resource | Equip the Dowsing Twisty Licorice Sticks to your inventory toolbar, then use them to locate piles of Skellybits around Badgetown and Nullwhere and dig them up. |
Cauldron Items[]
All of the other items must now be conjured by brewing them in the cauldron in the middle of the event display area in Badgetown. Walk up to the cauldron and interact with it to start the process. You will be presented with 3 types of "potions" to brew. Each time you brew one of these "potions", an item will be conjured as a result. Each "potion" requires different ingredients, and each one has a different set of items that can be conjured whenever you brew it.
The items that can be conjured consist of a mixture of "singleton" and "repeatable" items.
- Singleton items can only be acquired once. This includes player clothing items and wallpaper.
- Repeatable items can be acquired multiple times. This includes everything that isn't a singleton item.
Each time you brew in the cauldron, the item that is conjured is random, but it will not conjure a singleton item that you have already acquired. It will, however, conjure repeatable items that you have already acquired; sometimes it will conjure the same repeatable item multiple times in a row.

Special Halloween Dialogue[]
Upon interacting with each befriendable character for trick-or-treating, they will give the Player one or two pieces of candy (except for Arah, who will consistently give out 8 pieces of candy). If the Player talks to every befriendable character, they can receive 30 candies per day. If the Player tries to trick-or-treat with a non-befriendable character, they will simply say "Sorry, I didn't think to bring any candy with me" or "I don't have any candy, sorry!"
Character | Dialogue | |
---|---|---|
Arah | Aww yeah, Halloween vibes. Wish it could last all year! Maybe… | |
Bazil | Since when does trick-or-treating involve walking up to someone to get candy? I can't very well turn the lights off and pretend to not be at home in this situation. These candy hand-outs are bad for the economy. | |
Churles | I personally wouldn't eat candy that had been in a stranger's possession but to each their own. | |
Dubble | Oh yeah, Halloween. Want to buy a spooky beanjuice? It's a lot like a normal beanjuice but I call it spooky. | |
Gimble | Boo! Hope I didn't frighten you. Sometimes I don't know my own frightening strength. | |
Mayor Tinstle | Happiest of Halloweens! Communal candy | |
Meed | Happy Halloween! Here's hoping the ghosts of my past don't make an appearance… | |
Melda | Halloween is simultaneously the cutest and least cute holiday ever. | |
Millew | Are you seriously trick-or-treating? Laaame. So do you have any spare candy? | |
Officer Zuffle | Had a trick-or-treater dressed as a turtle get so excited about Halloween he ran head-first into a walkway railing he couldn't see in the dark. He's generally okay now. | |
Outgrid | Communal candy is the best candy. Just make sure not to leave any candy wrappers on the ground. | |
Padrig | I'm going to have a lot of work to do after Halloween un-dying everyone's Halloween hairs. | |
Rugnolia | Happy Halloween! | |
Sprin | Halloween is a family-friendly holiday where you're definitely not supposed to throw sea-dangler bait at Bazil's house. | |
Taffy | Camby for Taffy | |
Videon | This holiday is quite unusual but I think I understand its merits. Are all Oobin holidays about ghosts, monsters, and candy? |
A Riddle in Nullwhere[]
Walkthrough[]
Note: Before beginning to solve the riddle, you must be able to access the Nullwhere Oobnet Tower by defeating all the Creep Cult members in dance battles.
On the first day the Player wakes up after the Halloween Event triggers, they will receive the following letter in the mail:
“ | a rumor abounds: That stirring can be heard from below Nullwhere grounds. If you seek an ooblet from the great beyond, To the graveyard past midnight should you abscond. |
„ |
~ UNKNOWN XX |
Simply put, the letter is directing the Player to the Nullwhere graveyard, which surrounds the local Oobnet Tower. However, the riddles will not trigger during the day – the Player must visit the graveyard after midnight, when the clock in the upper right corner of the screen is pointing to the darkest section of the circle at the bottom. It's safest to start heading over after the "Up Late…" message is displayed under the clock. Once it's past midnight, head over to Nullwhere on Gimble's balloon!
Upon arriving at the graveyard, there will be a gravestone to the left of the entrance with green text written on it. Around the graveyard are four smaller gravestones with symbols on top, each with a one-line epitaph that will display upon interacting with them. (If the Player arrives before midnight, none of the text on any of the gravestones will appear.)
Upon interacting with the main gravestone, it will be revealed that the writing says:
“ | A trade must be made Drop ten of an item To keep ______ swayed |
„ |
The blank on the main gravestone will be different for each Player, and hints at which one of the smaller gravestones the Player is meant to solve to complete the event. There will be only one hint on the main gravestone, and as such only one of the smaller gravestones will be the correct solution. They are:
Hint on Main Gravestone | Symbol | Epitaph | Item Needed (x10) |
---|---|---|---|
True Love | Heart | Now but a gleaming ember in the skies | Gember |
Sunlight | Sun | Fraught with guilt and reeping what they sowed | Freep |
Music | Music Note | Overbore us all with gusto | Boregus |
Nature | Leaf | Former member of the dregs of society, now plant food | Dregplant |
The Player will need to create a stack of at least 10 of the correct item in their inventory (by selecting the item with "move", it is possible to "drop one" into a new slot until a stack of 10 has been created), then use "options" > "drop" to drop the items onto the lighter patch of dirt in front of the gravestone. If the wrong item is dropped, or if the correct item is dropped on the wrong gravestone, nothing will happen and the Player will be able to pick the dropped items back into their inventory. Upon dropping 10 of the correct item on the correct gravestone, the Player will have a chance to engage in a 1v1 dance battle with a random gleamy Nullwhere ooblet!
If the Player chooses not to complete the riddle, the hint on the main gravestone (and thus the solution) will remain the same until it is solved (see Time-Traveling Trivia below for more!). As such, if the Player does not have sufficient items at the time of first reading the riddle, it is possible to take the time to gather them before coming back to solve it, as long as it is solved before November 15th real-world time. However, the gleamy ooblet which appears is random, thus it is possible to decline the dance battle and have a new ooblet species appear upon re-solving the riddle (which itself will remain the same until a dance battle is won).
The riddle can only be solved once each year. Once solved, the text on the main gravestone will be changed to read "More may rise next spooky season!" until the end of the Halloween Event, and the text on the smaller gravestones will disappear entirely.
Time Traveling Trivia[]
According to research conducted by dedicated members of the Ooblets Discord server, the following observations have been made about participating in the Halloween Event after changing one's system clock:
- Though this walkthrough has described the dates the Halloween Event is active as "real-world time", this actually depends on the date set on one's system clock. As such, time traveling to unlock the Halloween Event (as well as the Wintertime Event) is possible, similar to how time traveling works in the Animal Crossing games.
- The Halloween Event is not time-locked – changing the year will still result in the Event being playable, so long as the date is between October 1st and November 15th (this includes years prior to the early access release of Ooblets (game) in July 2020!)
- The game will remember which years the riddle has been solved, thus time traveling forward to 2023 from 2022, solving the riddle, coming back to 2022 and otherwise allowing the game to progress normally, will result in the riddle being considered "solved" in 2023.
- The riddle appears to remain the same as long as it is unsolved, even after time traveling. As such, without completing the dance battle, it does not appear possible that re-loading to a different year would also re-load the riddle.
